A Dee Zee Tailgate Assist shock will make your tailgate easier to open and last longer. On Dodge Ram 1500 trucks manufactured in 2009 or later, and 2500 and 3500s, 2010 or newer, install the Tailgate Assist on the driver's side only. • • The key to installation is the nutsert tool, and nutsert that expands as you tighten it. Both are provided with the Tailgate Assist. Start by adjusting the nutsert tool so there is three-quarters of an inch from the washer to the head of the bolt. Use an M5 Allen wrench and a 10 mm wrench to install the nutsert in the opening by the tailgate pivot point. Tighten the nutsert with nine 360-degree turns. Do not over-tighten. When finished, remove the nutsert tool. • • Next, apply the thread-lock to the threads of the ball mount. Install the ball mount into the nutsert using a 13 mm wrench or socket. Now, take a T45 Torx socket or the wrench provided to remove the cable bolt and tailgate cable. Install the bolt you just removed through the hole in the ball mount plate, then install the cable back onto the cable bolt, and the larger part of the shock on the ball mount. Then, install the narrow end of the shock on the ball mount. • • To prevent potential damage, remove the other end of the tailgate cable with the T45 Torx and remove the motion limiter by prying up one edge of the flat nut.
