Condolences continue to pour in for former Bophuthatswana homeland President Lucas Mangope. He died Thursday at the age of 94 in his home village of Motswedi near Zeerust in North West. • Mangope ruled over the former homeland, which stretched across the former Cape Province, Transvaal, and Orange Free State, as well as areas bordering Botswana, for almost two decades. He was removed from office in 1994 after refusing to give up sovereignty to the South African government. Despite refusing to participate in the first democratic elections, Mangope's party re-emerged as the leading opposition party in the North-West province. • For more news, visit: http://www.sabc.co.za/news
