This is what our hitch will look like once it's installed. Next we're going to give you a couple measurements to assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch, such as a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is seven inches. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is eight inches. Now we'll go ahead with the installation. Starting with the forward attachment point we'll be removing the manufacturer's bolt here and it will become the forward attachment point for our hitch. • • Note, we'll also be reusing the manufacturer's hardware so we'll hang on to it after we remove it. Our rear attachment point on each side will be the access hole in the frame by the manufacturer. At these attachment points we'll be using the new half inch carriage bolt along with the half inch block and half inch flange nut to secure the hitch. Note, also supplied with our install kit will be a half inch pull wire to get the carriage bolt and block into position. We'll then go ahead and start installing the hardware into the frame. • • We'll take our bolt leader, slide on the block, and thread on the carriage bolt. We'll feed the bolt into the frame first, followed by the block, and then pull them back over the access hole using a reverse pull method. Once we complete the same process on the other side we're now ready to install the hitch. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install the fasteners. By leaving the bolt leaders onto the carriage bolts it will assist us in getting the hitch up into position without pushing our hardware back into the frame. Then bring the hitch up into position. • • We'll go ahead and thread in the manufacturers bolt going through the hitch and back into the frame. Once we have our manufacturers bolt re-installed finger tight on both sides we can go ahead and remove the bolt leader from the carriage bolt and install the flange nut. Now we're ready to tighten them all down. Next we'll go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Once our hitch is secured and torqued to specifications we're ready to hit the road. That does it for the install of the Curt 1-1/4 inch Hitch, part number C11000, on our 2010 Volkswagon Golf. • • .
