M.) am linken Ufer des Zürichsees im Bezirk Höfe ist die bevölkerungsmässig grösste Gemeinde im Kanton Schwyz. Sie besteht aus Pfäffikon, Freienbach, Wilen bei Wollerau, Bäch und Hurden. Die beiden vorgelagerten Inseln (Ufenau und Lützelau), das Naturschutzgebiet Frauenwinkel mit dem grössten Schilfgebiet des Zürichsees sowie ein Teil des Etzelpasses gehören ebenfalls dazu. • • Mit 112'645 m² ist die Ufenau die grösste Insel der Schweiz. Mit ihrer Nachbarinsel Lützelau liegt sie im Zürichsee nahe bei Pfäffikon auf dem Gemeindegebiet von Freienbach und ist Eigentum des Klosters Einsiedeln. Südlich der Ufenau fand man Pfähle aus dem 14. Jh. v. Chr., in den Grundmauern der 1141 erbauten Kirche St. Peter und Paul sind Fundamente eines gallo-römischen Tempels enthalten. Sehenswert sind auch die Martinskapelle und das Grab des Humanisten Ulrich von Hutten. • • • Freienbach (418 m above sea level) is a municipality situated on the left shore of Lake Zurich in the district of Höfe of the canton of Schwyz. The largest Swiss municipality in terms of population comprises Pfäffikon, Freienbach, Wilen bei Wollerau, Bäch, and Hurden. The municipality of Freienbach also comprises two offshore islands (Ufenau and Lützelau), the nature reserve Frauenwinkel with Lake Zurich's largest reed area, and part of the Etzel Pass. • • With 112,645 m², Ufenau is Switzerland's largest island. The two islands of Ufenau and Lützelau lie in Lake Zurich near Pfäffikon in the municipal area of Freienbach and belong to the Einsiedeln Abbey. Posts from the 14th century BC became visible south of Ufenau and the foundation wall of the church St. Peter and Paul, built in 1141, contains foundations of a Gallo-Roman temple. Popular sights are the chapel Martinskapelle and the grave of the humanist Ulrich von Hutten.
