A quick video demonstrating what diabetes is (essentially a build up of glucose in the blood). • This video is very basic and is aimed at people who don't know what diabetes is. For a more detailed explanation please look elsewhere because I am certainly no expert in this field. • Type 1 diabetes is where our insulin factory is broken and so we can't produce any insulin to shuttle the glucose (originally food) in the blood to the muscle cells. In this case people need an external insulin source. • Type 2 diabetes is where the body can produce insulin but it is inefficient because there is either not enough insulin, or the Insulin cannot deliver the glucose into the muscle cells. This is called insulin resistance. • In this video I use the analogy of glucose being prisoners (almonds), insulin being prison officers (cashews) and the muscle cells being prison cells. • Essentially the prison guards job is to escort the prisoners from the waiting room to the prison cells. In other words, insulin's job is to deliver glucose from the blood to the muscles. • Type 1, the prisoners arrive but there are no prison officers at all, and so they can't get escorted to their cells. They are left in the waiting room. • Type 2, example 1, is where there are some prison officers but not enough to escort all the prisoners to their cells. This means some prisoners remain in the waiting room. • Type 2, example 2, is where there are enough prison officers to escort all the prisoners, but the cells are locked and their keys don't work. Again, the prisoners remain in the waiting room. • I hope this makes sense. • It's a strange analogy I know 😁. • Strong and Balanced. • ____________________ • Please SUBSCRIBE ⬇️ • / @simple_strength_pt • Follow me on ➡️ Insta @simple_strength_pt
