Tayras are native to Central and South America, also Trinidad and Tobago. They're a mustelid so in the same family as otters, ferrets and badgers. Like other mustelids they can emit a strong odour from their anal glands as self-defence. Their eyesight is poor, they rely on scent to track food and are good climbers.
