This video is about the partial hydrogenation of alkynes to alkenes . hydrogenation is the addition of hydrogen . When lindlar's catalyst is used for the hydrogenation of alkynes the cis alkene is produces meaning the functional groups are on the same side of the double bond . Lindlar's catalyst is the mixture of calcium carbonate , lead acetate and quinoline with palladium .. These compounds poison the palladium catalyst so its effectiveness is diminished and it will be able to reduce one pi bond only . • the trans alkene is produced by reducing alkyne with sodium metal with liquid ammonia .. The mechanism of both the formation of cis and trans alkene by partial hydrogenation of alkyne is discussed in the video . • • ****follow me**** •   / conceptuallearning26
