Hello again, Classical MIDI fans, and welcome! Today's selection is one of the most popular a capella choral works performed today, but the version you might have heard is not how it was originally written back in the 1630's! Gregorio Allegri's Miserere Mei, Deus - a falsobordone setting of Psalm 51 written to be exclusively performed in the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican - has a wonderful history, full of mystery and unwritten performance traditions which have morphed over time - mostly because of interpretations of listeners over the years being misunderstood! There is a wonderful video by the Early Music Sources channel which goes into great detail about it - particularly how that glorious High C which comes out of nowhere was originally added to the piece! Here's a link to the video: •    • Falsobordone, the Miserere of Allegri...   • Technically speaking, this piece was a nice reprieve from some of the new challenges I've been working through recently, as the performance is simply two choirs and a cantus, without accompaniment. In many performances, the second choir is situated in a separate, more distant location than the cantor and the primary chorus, so to mimic that I've set my first chorus to the center of the performance space, and the second chorus in the back , by heightening the reverb tail slightly, while lowering the volume of the original source. This gives it the feeling of relatively significant distance away from the main stage, but not so much that it's lost in the reverb without any sense of text. Please let me know in the comments below any and all feedback you might have to suggest alternative solutions, or that might help make these videos even better! The sample library used is listed below, and as always, all parts are recorded by myself within Cubase 12 Pro, mixed and mastered by myself as well. • Composer: Gregorio Allegri • Selection: Miserere Mei, Deus • Instrumentation: Cantus Primus with Two Choirs • No Copyright Infringement Intended. • Cubase 12: https://www.steinberg.net/cubase/ • EastWest Hollywood Choirs: https://www.soundsonline.com/vocals/h... • Please Like, Comment and Subscribe for more!
