This video is the second half of a discussion on euthanasia. • For Part 1, see: • Killing vs. Letting Die: Rachels on E... • In this video, I begin by summarizing some of the key terms and ideas that were discussed in Part 1, before outlining the main arguments in Daniel Callahan's essay, When Self-Determination Runs Amok. • Callahan considers four common arguments that are given in support of the claim that euthanasia (of various kinds) is morally permissible. Proponents of euthanasia commonly argue that: • 1. The practice should be allowed out of respect for patient autonomy, • 2. The practice is permissible given that there is not a moral distinction between killing and letting die, • 3. The practice will not lead to seriously negative consequences, and • 4.
