I love Christmas music. • I always wanted to write at least one Christmas song. And face it, there's a lot to live up to if you love Christmas and you want to write yet another Christmas song and give it the reverence you have for it. • One day in one of Orla Gartland's posts she said she wanted to write a Christmas song but was having trouble getting started and wanted suggestions. So I told her what I would do ... even though I hadn't done it. So you might say it lit a fire under me to put my money where my mouth is. • And a week or so later I looked down at a card that had Linus from a Charlie Brown Christmas doing his speech for what Christmas is all about. He ends with Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men. (I love Peanuts, too) • But I remembered something from my youth, that the actual translation from the original verse is Peace on Earth to men of good will . Which means something a bit different. That was my in to write something a little different. • I also started it out not directly referencing cloudy snowy weather, but a cold sunny morning with an ice fog. This also ties into the Christmas Spirit the Ghost of Christmas Present was casting about from his horn on people - snapping them out of their grumpiness and changing their attitudes toward each other. Always liked that. Some kind of magic. • And to me, the actual purpose of religion is to shape mens' hearts and minds, and as the hymn goes, let there be peace on Earth, and let it begin with me. So there you have it. An outline of my song.
