Software RAID | Windows 10 | Disk Management • In this video tutorial, we will go over different RAID Levels, and how to configure RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, Simple, and Spanned Volumes using Disk Management in Windows 10 bu using Virtual Box. RAID stands for Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks or Redundant Array of Independent Disks. It is a data storage virtualization technology that combines multiple physical disk drive components into one or more logical units for the purposes of data redundancy, performance improvement, or both. • We have Software RAID and Hardware RAID. When we use O.S Disk Management to implement RAID, it is known as Software RAID, and when we use RAID Adapter to setup RAID at the Hardware Level, it is known as Hardware RAID. Hardware RAID does not relay on the O.S, and it does not add additional load on the OS. Therefore, Hardware RAID is better. • We can setup Hardware RAID by going into the BIOS or UEFI if the Motherboard supports, or we can purchase a RAID adapter controller, and connect the Hard Drives to the RAID Controller and setup RAID, • In this video tutorial, we will go over Software RAID using virtual hard drives, but this is just to demonstrate the step by step configurations. In the real life case scenario, we need to use actual multiple physical hard drives and implement RAID on them. The software RAID configuration is exactly the same, just instead of VHD, we have actual physical hard disks installed on the PC. • Warning: • These steps will delete all data on the hard drive, please make sure to backup your data first. • Disclaimer: Please note that these video tutorials in this channel are for training purpose.
