This is a Rolex Oyster Perpetual 114200 review. • Hey everybody, and welcome to the Rolex review series, presented by Bob’s Watches. When it comes to compact Rolex classics, the 34mm Oyster Perpetual reference 114200 is a prime example of understated elegance. The example seen here, referred to in some circles as the “White Grape”, is part of an ongoing series of sleek metallic dials with colorful accents that Rolex continues to add to year after year. • THE BEZEL • As with other Oyster Perpetual models, the 114200 features a steel bezel that’s mirror polished, which stands out substantially against its stainless steel case and bracelet, which have a more understated brushed finishing. If anything, this polishing helps draw the eye towards its unique dial. • THE CASE • The 34mm case of the Oyster Perpetual 114200 is a bit dainty by today’s standards, but it’s also a size that was part of Rolex’s mens watch offerings for decades. Rolex fitted this model with a screw-down crown as well, allowing the watch to be rated for 100m of water resistance. • THE BRACELET • Using the traditional Oystersteel bracelet with a brushed finish was the perfect choice for this reference. The simple broad three-piece link design provides little in the way of distraction, letting its dial do all the talking. • THE DIAL • The dial combination of the Oyster Perpetual 114200 also easily pushes this watch into the unisex category. The combination of its golden/champagne dial and subtle baby blue markers behind its white gold applied indices is a bit out of the ordinary, but works really well when you see it in the metal. • THE LUME • The application of Chromalight luminous material is reasonable on this model without being overpowering. Its applied baton-style hour indices are all lumed, with the indices at 3, 6, and 9 being slightly larger than the rest. A thin sliver of the material is also present on its hour and minute hand. • THE MOVEMENT/TECHNICAL INFO • Given the smaller size of this model, Rolex is using the caliber 3130 rather than the 3135 that we see in cases that are 36mm and above. Aside from the lack of a date indication, you’re still getting all the Rolex build quality and Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified accuracy of its larger siblings as per Rolex factory standards. • CONCLUDING THOUGHTS • While not too far off from similar Oyster Perpetual models, the bright Champaign dial and baby blue tinged indices prove that this watch has enough difference in its look to stand uniquely on its own.
