Dr. Rajiv Chhabra, Assistant Professor of Medicine, and Dr. John Helzberg, the Marion Bloch Professor of Medicine, from St. Luke's Hospital and the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, in Kansas City, Missouri, discuss their article appearing in the November 2013 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings, which notes that patients with hepatic steatosis (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) were shown to be at increased risk for coronary calcification beyond that seen from traditional coronary artery disease risk factors, including Framingham risk factors, diabetes, or the metabolic syndrome.
