What do lions eat in the desert? Gemsbok! Though lions can catch and eat anything from mice to elephants, one of their favorite prey items in semi-arid regions like the Kalahari in Southern Africa is the gemsbok. We watched this big lone male lion kill and eat this gemsbok in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in South Africa. Two days later we returned to find him in the same spot, still protecting the kill and eating it.
