A birding haven, the Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary in Ernakulam is the first bird sanctuary of Kerala and is home to innumerable species of birds. Over 300 species of birds have been recorded here and is the ideal place for birders and nature enthusiasts. It was Dr. Salim Ali, the Birdman of India and world-renowned ornithologist who recognised the unique avian life in Thattekkad.
