NEW WINDOWS BUILD NOW AVAILABLE ON GITHUB : https://github.com/pelrun/dsk2cdt2disc • In this episode of 8 bits in the basement . I show an easy way I came across to get .dsk image files onto 3 floppy disks using the cassette port of the CPC 6128 and its 3 disk drive. • I know that nowadays a lot of people like to change these out for more modern solutions like the Gotec in order to emulate the disk drive and easily load disk images. Don't get me wrong I'm all for modern solutions but I spent so much time trying to get the drive to work that when it finally did the last thing I wanted to do was not use it. • James Churchill wrote a great piece of software in dsk2cdt2disc that, as I understand it places a disk image into a .cdt file (the file format usually used for Amstrad tape files) with a loader program stuck on just before the image. When run on the Amstrad this loader file sets up the computer to take the .dsk image into its memory in chunks and write them to any disk found in the 6128's disk drive. When the process has completed you have a working copy of your chosen dsk image file on a 3 inch disk. • In this video I use dsk2cdt to create a 3 copy of Space Moves, a home brew game created by Toni Ramírez. After making the .cdt file I convert it to a .wav file that can be played over most media devices including mobile phones using tzx2wav. The .tzx and .cdt formats are virtually the same and so tzx2wav is capable of .cdt file conversion too. • Note : I had to compile dsk2cdt myself as any windows executable I found would not work for me (it would get as far as the loading M/C portion on the Amstrad but no further). I could not compile for Windows myself (down to my own lack of experience), but did manage to compile a Linux executable. This is why I used Linux in the video and not windows. • Space Moves image, source code and more : http://cpcretrodev.byterealms.com/201... • GitHub page for dsk2cdt : https://github.com/pelrun/dsk2cdt2disc • GitHub page for tzx2wav : https://github.com/mist-devel/mist-bo... • All music used in this video : bensound.com
