Located in Louisville, Kentucky, the Waverly Hills Sanatorium is believed to be one of the most haunted places in the United States. • I’m Paul on behalf of Graveyard Shift and these are just some of the sinister tales of the Waverly Hills Sanatorium. • Opening in 1910, Waverly functioned as a tuberculosis hospital where patients were subjected to torturous methods of treatment. Doctors would insert balloons into patients' lungs to assist with breathing. They would also remove ribs, attempting to give damaged lungs room to expand. These bloody procedures were painful, ineffective, and often fatal. An estimated 63,000 people died at Waverly, and it is believed those patients’ spirits still haunt the hospital. • One of the most ominous areas of Waverly Hills is that of room 502. In 1928, years before Waverly closed its doors in 1961, the body of a nurse was found hanging from a light fixture… Then Shortly after, another nurse working in the same room jumped from the roof to her death.
