The Vario roof of the R 171 cannot be closed automatically. • Emergency actuation has to be performed. • Open both doors and remove the ignition key. • Open the stowage compartment. • Using a suitable tool, bring out the cover from the rear panel. • Using an Allen wrench, open the emergency opening valve through max. 2 turns. • The hydraulic pump is now unpressurized. • Important: Now insert the emergency key in the lock. • Using both hands, grasp the handle strip of the trunk lid. • Pull the trunk lid upwards until the tubular frame is unlocked. • Fully raise the trunk lid to the rear together with the tubular frame. • Important: Pull the tubular frame upwards and backwards at the same time. • The tubular frame could otherwise suffer damage. • Unlock the trunk lid lock. • Move the trunk lid to the assembly position. • Keep hold of the trunk lid the whole time when moving it into the assembly position. • Otherwise it will fall back down. • Position the rear shelf vertically. • Ensure that the rear shelf is actually standing vertical. • Otherwise, the control arm will not be positioned precisely in the claw. • This could damage the claw. • With an assistant, lift the stowed Vario roof out of the trunk. • Important: Only grasp and move the roof by the C-pillars so that it is not bent out of shape. • Fold it forwards until the angle of the C-pillars is 90°. • Unclip the cover in the headliner. • Unlock the lock at the locking bolt by turning clockwise. • Use an Allen wrench for this purpose. • Fold the roof forwards until the locking hooks enter the support. • Important: Once again, only move the roof by the C-pillars. • Turn the locking bolt counterclockwise. • The roof is now fully locked. • Important: Clip the cover back in. • With flat hands, press down the roof between the C-pillar and Vario roof front section on both sides. • Open the trunk partition. • Close both rear side windows. • Star Diagnosis is required for this. • Access the Main groups menu. • Select Control units . • Select Body . • Select Vario roof . • Select Actuations . • Left rear... and Right rear power window actuation are available for selection. • First select Left rear power window actuation . • Pay attention to the safety information displayed. • Keep F4 pressed until the first rear window is fully closed. • Repeat the procedure on the other window. • Guide the tubular frame into both guide pins uniformly. • Open the trunk trim. • Lift the retainer using a suitable screwdriver. • Unclip the trunk lid actuation hydraulic cylinder from the tubular frame. • Repeat the procedure on the left-hand side of the trunk. • Close the trunk partition and trunk lid. • Close the emergency opening valve with a torque of 2.5 Nm. • Important: Seal the opening with a blind plug. • To ensure that the closed Vario roof cannot be accidentally actuated: • Remove the roof fuse. • Pull out fuse no. 38 (40 A). • Emergency locking is complete. • ========================================================================== • instagram: • / mbownersclub • twitter: • / mb_owners
