What does the Law mean? • • God's righteousness = center of the Law, center of the gospel • Righteousness has legal ramifications - God's righteousness=an impossible standard for humans to meet - we are all already guilty because of this • For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness... Romans 1:17 • The Law (or our laws) reveal God's righteousness and our unrighteousness (we cannot perfectly obey His commandments) • For in it the righteousness of God is revealed... Romans 1:17 • • We are unrighteous, and stand before God (the righteous Judge) as guilty. • God is a righteous judge... Psalm 7:11 • ...God Himself is judge... Psalm 50:6 • • Because of His love for us, • For God so loved the world... John 3:16 • God graciously imputes His own righteousness to us, sinners who were destined to be condemned. • ...God credits righteousness apart from works: • Blessed are those whose lawless deeds have been forgiven and whose sins have been covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account.
