The Vanishing El is a fascinating short film that provides us a nostalgic look back at Manhattan's last elevated passenger railroad, the Third Avenue El. Part of a system of elevated railroads constructed in the late 19th century, the 3rd Avenue El outlived its counterparts, the 6th and 9th street El's, and operated into the 1950's until it was dismantled in 1955. Filmed and produced by Roy Creveling, this is one of the If Things Could Talk series films. Narrated by an El Car, really the voice of Carl King, we are given a tour of the railroad from the Bronx to South Ferry, a distance of 15 miles. • We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment!
