Qualified real estate investment trust dividends from a fund are reported in Box 5 of your Form 1099‑DIV. • The taxpayer generally gets a federal income tax deduction equal to 20 percent of the amount in Box 5. This deduction does not reduce adjusted gross income but does reduce taxable income.
