Cattaraugus County NY Home of the Enchanted Mountains

We recently visited several small towns and attractions in Cattaraugus County, NY home of the Enchanted Mountains. • We started with Portville. Settled in 1813 this town is nestled among farm fields and is home to Sprague’s Maple Farms, New York’s Maple wonderland. There is a terrific interactive trail that takes you through the collection process from tap to table. From what to tap, how to tap, and where to tap you can learn about how to collect sap and make maple syrup. The next stop on our tour, was the Allegheny River Trail, a 5.6-mile loop, 10' wide asphalt multi use recreational trail, located in the Town of Allegany and City of Olean.The trail runs along the Allegheny River behind the beautiful campus of St. Bonaventure University. 8 miles away is Rock City Park, which boasts the world’s largest exposure of Quartz Conglomerate. The hike starts out on top of the exposed rocks that were formed over 300 million years ago!
