Shower drains come in a few different varieties and can sometimes be difficult to remove, which is why there are a number of tools designed to do just that. Mike is here to provide an overview of a few of our most popular shower drain tools. • The fiberglass drain we’re working with is a gasket or compression style one, which fits over and down the drain piping. A rubber caulking gasket and a nut form the seal; the nut is tightened using the simple tool that’s included with the drain itself, and a screwdriver. Given its simplicity, inexperienced users will often throw this tool away - don’t do it! • A similar tool to be used with fiberglass drains is made by Oatey/Casper. It features four prongs that fit into grooves on the caulking nut. With a few turns of a socket wrench, the drain is easily tightened down. • Our most popular fiberglass drain tool is the “quick set” tool. It’s uniquely shaped to provide the best fit inside the drain, and has a long handle making it easy to turn. The now-discontinued “Bulldog” tool operates in a similar manner, and can also be used to score the cut-out for the drain. • To learn how to use more drain tools, visit https://www.plumbingsupply.com/how-to... • To purchase your own drain tool, check out https://www.plumbingsupply.com/toolsd...
