I believe the process is identical for the 6.8L Triton V10 engine and probably some other Ford and other manufacturer engines. • Contents of this video: • 00:00 Intro • 00:44 Remove degas bottle cap • 00:50 Drain radiator • 01:20 Coolant drain and flush results • 02:18 New thermostat and gasket • 02:49 Proper new coolant • 03:19 Remove engine cover • 03:49 Upper rad hose housing exposed • 04:12 Thermostat housing bolts removed • 04:53 Old thermostat shown • 05:13 Pry out old thermostat from housing • 05:51 Compare new and old thermostats side-by-side • 06:52 Install new thermostat and O-ring • 08:12 Install bolts and tighten to 18 lb-ft • 08:36 Torque wrench clicks • 08:49 Close radiator drain • 08:59 Fill bleed antifreeze • 09:10 UView Airlift coolant refill tool • 09:34 Wrap-up • If you find your engine is not getting up to temperature soon enough (slow warmup) or you are having issues not getting enough heat in the cab of your truck, you might need a new thermostat. This is one of the easier DIY repairs that you can do. In my case, I changed the thermostat for preventative maintenance, mine had not yet failed. • In this case I am showing the procedure on a 2003 Ford F-150 but it should apply to 1997-2003 F150s plus other models and 2004 newer F150s with the 4.6L V8 engine. You will need 10mm and 8mm sockets and ratchet to remove the housing and trims under the hood. You will also need a 19mm wrench to loosen the rad drain screw to drain some of the antifreeze or you will have a mess. • Check out my other videos on this 2003 Ford F150, other videos include steering wheel replacement, King Ranch leather seat cleaning, starter battery cable replacement, and more. • The products shown in the video include the Ford Motorcraft RT-1234 thermostat, RG-571 O-ring gasket, VC-1 cooling system flush chemical, VC-7-B gold coolant, and the U-View 550000 Airlift cooling system tool.
