Fred Switzer served as the program director at KTAE 1260 AM radio in Taylor, TX for many years. You can hear him record a commercial at 4:40 in the video. Fred began working at the station in 1952 and remained until it was sold in the late 1990s. He became known to many as the voice of Taylor with his unique, on-air delivery style. This mini-documentary was recorded by me, Paul Schlesinger, in the fall of 1992 for a college photojournalism project. • Fred was born in 1925 and passed away in October 2020. Fred grew up and graduated high school in Houston, TX, and served in the Navy during WWII. After the war he received a journalism degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. By 1952 he was working for the Taylor Times newspaper, and joined KTAE radio shortly thereafter. He also served as announcer for the Taylor Duck football games for many years. • Note: the camera used in this video was manufactured in an era before image stabilization was introduced. So my apologies if the image is jittery.
