The objective is to listen to it a few times, figure out parts, sequences, solos etc, all this while listening to a drum less track. So he can have all the freedom to come up with his own drum parts. After he listens, he plays it to the best of his ability and listens to the original song afterwards to see what the drummer on the track did different.
