Friday Khutbah at The Jurgens Centre, 91 Harvest Rd, Englefield Green, Egham TW20 0QR on November 15th, 2024. • Prophethood • By • Atif Jung • Allah sent prophets to guide humanity, communicate His divine will, and provide a practical example of living a righteous life. The primary purpose of the prophets was to call people to worship Allah alone, teach them morality, justice, and the laws of Islam, and help them attain spiritual and worldly success. • Reasons Allah Sent Prophets • 1. **Guidance**: Prophets were sent to lead people from ignorance and misguidance to the straight path of worshipping Allah (Tawhid) and following His commands. • Allah says in the Quran: • We sent a messenger to every community, saying, 'Worship Allah and shun false gods.' (Surah An-Nahl, 16:36) • 2. **Revelation of Divine Law**: They delivered the Shariah (divine laws) that teach how to live in accordance with Allah’s will. • And We have revealed to you [O Muhammad] the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it. (Surah Al-Ma'idah, 5:48) • 3. **Reminder of Accountability**: Prophets warned their people of the Day of Judgment and the consequences of their deeds. • We have sent you [O Muhammad] with the truth as a bearer of glad tidings and a warner, and there is no community to which a warner has not come. (Surah Fatir, 35:24) • 4. **Perfect Example**: Prophets exemplified how to live a life pleasing to Allah. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is described as a mercy to the worlds (Surah Al-Anbiya, 21:107). • --- • Qualities of Prophets (Including Muhammad, peace be upon him) • 1. **Truthfulness (Sidq)**: Prophets always spoke the truth and lived by it. They never lied or deceived. • The Quraysh of Makkah recognized Prophet Muhammad as Al-Ameen (the trustworthy) even before his prophethood. • 2. **Trustworthiness (Amanah)**: Prophets were honest and trustworthy in all matters. • Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. (Surah Ash-Shu'ara, 26:107) • 3. **Intelligence**: Prophets possessed great wisdom and understanding, enabling them to effectively convey Allah's message. • 4. **Infallibility in Conveying the Message (Ismah)**: Prophets were protected from sin and error in delivering Allah's revelations. • 5. **Compassion and Patience**: They displayed immense patience and mercy toward their people, even in the face of hardship and opposition. • Prophet Muhammad is described in the Quran as kind and merciful to the believers (Surah At-Tawbah, 9:128). • 6. **Deep Devotion to Allah**: Prophets were devout worshipers, constantly engaged in prayer, remembrance, and submission to Allah. • --- • Unique Qualities of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) • 1. **Final Messenger**: Muhammad is the Seal of the Prophets, with no prophet coming after him. • Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets. (Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:40) • 2. **Universal Message**: His message is for all of humanity, unlike previous prophets sent to specific nations. • And We have not sent you [O Muhammad] except as a mercy to the worlds. (Surah Al-Anbiya, 21:107) • 3. **Perfect Character**: His character is described as an exalted standard of character. • Indeed, you are of a great moral character. (Surah Al-Qalam, 68:4) • 4. **Miracle of the Quran**: The Quran, revealed to Muhammad, is an eternal and unaltered miracle. • The prophets were role models, and their lives teach us how to worship Allah and interact with others in a way that leads to success in this life and the hereafter.
