PROPER Kettlebell Swing Technique 3 Important Tips

Kettlebells are a great piece of equipment that have tons of uses in strength training and/or condition workouts! One of the most well known and highly used however is the kettlebell swing. There are a few different variations for kettlebell swings and in this video, we are going to give you three tips that you can apply to any of them to make sure you move efficiently! Let us know in the comments your favorite kettlebell exercise or any questions you may have regarding you kettlebell swings form! • First, we want to make sure that our spine stays neutral and we prevent out back from extension or flexion (arching or curving). In order to do so, think about keeping your ribcage down my flexing your abs, and letting your chest fall forward as you start to hinge. We recommend that you record yourself or have a friend watch you to make sure you don’t try to overcorrect this common fault and have your back start to round! • Second, and this is a big one for an efficient kettlebell swing technique, is to push your butt back during the hinge and keep your shins vertical. The kettlebell swing is a movement that recruits your posterior chain (your back side) but we rely on that area less if we let our knees come forward. Let your knees bend as you push your butt back and make sure you feel a big stretch in the hamstring. When done correctly, you’ll receive a ton of benefits from the kettlebell swings! • Third is keeping the kettlebell high up in your hips and not letting it drop below your knees. If you do let the kettlebell go to low, it puts more stress on your back and can cause irritation. Also, the further the kettlebell gets away from your center of mass (in this case your hips where all your weight is sitting) it makes it harder to bring it back up as you will feel less connected to the kettlebell.
