Depending on the severity, the condition may require mandibular distraction osteogenesis (surgery to elongate the jaw), tongue-lip adhesion, tracheostomy, and cleft palate repair. • This condition is associated with difficulty breathing or stoppages in breathing. It's very important that your child's care includes an assessment of breathing. For example, all children with this condition should have polysomnography (a sleep study) to evaluate breathing during the night. Microlaryngoscopy and bronchoscopy are two other very important tests. • The pediatric plastic surgery team at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is among the most experienced in the world in treatment and care for Pierre Robin syndrome.
