If there is one self defense technique you learn from aikido, let it be Nodotsukiage ( Nodo - Skee - Ah - Geh ). It's one of aikido's most powerful and versatile techniques. Essentially it's done by angling off the line of attack and entering in with your whole body as you stiff arm the opponent's head to the floor. This technique will either drive them backwards onto their back, or (if they roll) on their side. It's also great as a strike to just keep them away.
