Explosive Shaped Charges are one of the most fascinating items we work with here at Ordnance Lab. Explosive shaped charges are very simple, yet are able to focus the incredible power of an explosion on a metal or composite liner, and send it traveling at blistering velocities to penetrate even the hardest of substances. The concept of an explosive shaped charge is simple, but the method of optimizing their performance is not so easy. Many factors go into play to make the explosive shaped charge get the maximum penetration possible. In this video, we do a simple study of the relationship of the explosive shaped charge liner diameter and it's stand-off distance to the target.
