Thallium : THE MOST TOXIC METAL ON EARTH • You might think that the most toxic substances might offer some sort of warning, like smoke or radioactive glow. But most of them are innocuous looking. • In its pure form, thallium is odorless and tasteless. It has gained notoriety as “poisoner’s poison” as it has been used by murderers as a difficult to detect poison. • The human body absorbs thallium quite effectively, especially through skin, the breathing organs and the digestive tract. Part of the reason for Thallium’s high toxicity is that, when present in aqueous solution, it exhibits some similarities with essential alkali metals. So, thallium can displace Potassium around the body affecting the central nervous system. That's what makes it one of the most poisonous metals in the world. Prussian Blue is known to be the most effective antidote for thallium toxicity. • There are numerous recorded cases of Thallium poisoning. • In Australia, in the early 1950s, there was a notable spate of cases of murder by Thallium poisoning. The Australian TV documentary “Recipe for Murder”, released in 2011, examined three of the most sensational Australian Thallium poisonings, The Fletcher, Monty and the Grills cases. • The most notorious Thallium poisoner was Graham Fredrick Young. He poisoned around 70 people in the English village of Bovingdon, in Hertfordshire, of whom 3 died. Thallium was also the poison of choice for Saddam Hussain to use on dissidents. • Thallium Sulphate was once widely used as rat killer. Due to safety concerns, this use has been prohibited in many countries. Production of Thallium and its compounds has been banned in the USA and other western countries. But, Thallium Sulphate is still sold in developing countries where it is permitted as a pesticide. World production of Thallium compounds is around 30 tons per year. There has been no assessment of how great the reserves are. • #metals, #metal, #thallium, #toxic, #science • Music: https://www.purple-planet.com • You can also watch our other metal related videos, • on Mercury, • • How Mercury is Made • On Osmium, • • Osmium : The Densest Metal on Earth • Please subscribe to CRAZY CUBE.
