Taos Pueblo stands beneath the peaks of the Sangre de Cristo mountains and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The village belonging to the Tiwa (Red Willow) tribe dates back to approximately 1000AD. The Adobe-style buildings have flat roofs and ladders. • St. Jerome or San Geronimo Church dates back to 1850 and has an altar with the Corn Maiden/Virgin Mary at its centre. The history of the church is tinged with sadness. The original church was destroyed during the Mexican-American War when the Pueblo sided with the Mexicans and the locals (Tiwa men, women, and children) took shelter there and lost their lives to American forces. • A harvest festival and a festival honoring St. Jerome are held on 30 September. No photography is allowed during festivals. • The entrance fee is USD25.00 for adults. • Further information: • https://taospueblo.com/ • https://www.nps.gov/articles/000/taos... • Music: Lost Dreams of a Forgotten Realm from Storyblocks (Saowakhon Media) • Video by Tanja Nayak and new and old photos by Tanja Nayak • #taospueblo
