Paper Air Rocket Launcher

This is a video showing my design for a paper rocket pressurized air launcher made mostly of PVC - air powered rocket launcher/compressed air rockets. My kids really enjoy building rockets and we (I) hope to add some science and math into the fun. • The build: • The pressurized tubes are 3/4 schedule 80 pvc risers bought from Home Depot (2x 12 and 3x4 ) (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Orbit-3-4-... http://www.homedepot.com/p/Orbit-1-in.... The joints are 3/4 schedule 40 PVC threaded (1 endcap, 2x elbows, and 1 t-joint). The pressurized pieces are joined together using Teflon tape and tightened with wrenches. The air release mechanism is a 3/4 Orbit automatic sprinkler valve (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Orbit-3-4-... or https://amzn.to/2OVms0S). • A 3/4-1/2 reducer is used at the other end of the sprinkler valve and connected to two 1/2 M-F elbow joints. The launch tube is a 12 1/2 PVC riser. The additional threaded end works really well because it is tapered. This allows the rockets to slide on easier. • The air valve consisted of a steel 3/4-1/2 reducer, 1/2-1/4 reducer, 1/4-1/8 reducer and a shrader valve. (2 in particular: • Compressed Air Rocket Launchers.m4v and • Weekend Project: Compressed Air Rocket ) I initially had planned to used an all steel pipe design, but it was a bit heavy and after some testing with the PVC risers I found the PSI didn't need to be too high - 50-70 was plenty using this design.
