Did you find her yet? • Here are some tips to practice queen spotting in your own colonies: • Look for the behavior: the retinue will form around her in a circle, crowd around her, and then clear the way for her to walk. • She will be a very slow moving bee (usually) in the middle of the constantly forming retinue. • She will likely bee on a frame of brood. Often uncapped brood, but not always! • Some people say to move your eyes from left to right across the frame, instead of the right to left we are used to. It can force us to slow down and notice details that we may not otherwise pick up when scanning something. • What works for you? Let us know your tried and true tricks in the comments! • The retinue that forms around her is tending to her every need and spreading here pheromones around the hive so the entire colony can know she is present. • #shorts #queen #queenspotting #bee #honeybee #honey #apis #mellifera #apismellifera #hive #colony #workerbee #worker #queenbee #humboldtcounty #beekeeping #beekeeper #beekeeping101 #egg #cell #play #fun #game #find #retinue #practice #comb #beecomb #brood #blondie #onewayoranother #nectar #pollen #search @angelasbeestuff
