The Anglo-Iraqi War of 1941 was a conflict that took place during World War II between the United Kingdom and Iraq. Fueled by geopolitical tensions and the British fear of Iraq aligning with the Axis powers, the war erupted when Iraqi Prime Minister Rashid Ali al-Gaylani sought to establish closer ties with Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. The British, viewing this as a threat to their interests in the Middle East, responded with military intervention. • The conflict lasted from mid-April to late May, 1941, and resulted in a decisive British victory. The British effectively used bomber planes and quickly occupied Baghdad, restoring a pro-British government under a different leadership. The Anglo-Iraqi War solidified British control over Iraq, maintaining strategic influence in the region. Tragically in the aftermath of the conflict a pogrom against Iraqi Jews took place in Bagdad: 128 Jews were killed, 210 were injured, and over 1,500 businesses and homes were damaged. • VIDEO • With British Forces In Iraq (1941) •    • With British Forces In Iraq (1941)   • The War In Iraq (1941) •    • The War In Iraq (1941)
