Have you even seen sea shells when they are still alive? • Coquina clams are filter feeders, so they use their siphons to strain their food (plankton and detritus) from water. They have two siphon tubes. One is for food and oxygen, and one is for releasing waste. They use their foot to burrow in the sand so they can collect food as the waves wash over them, and they also use the waves to wash them to a new spot to feed. Fish, crabs, and shorebirds eat coquina clams. These video clips were taken at La Jolla Shores beach in La Jolla, California. • #amazing #animals #sandiego #nature #beach #coquinaclams #seashells
