Abou • Girlhood Full Review Transcript: • Girlhood is a French drama and in France it was actually released under the title Girl Gang - I think the've probably done the right thing in changing the title because although it is about a young woman who lives on an estate a outside of Paris - one of those kind of rough estates we've seen in films like La Haine - it isn't just about her falling into a life of crime and joining a girl gang although that is what happens. It starts out and she's doing very well it seems like it she is trying to live a normal kinda straight life but it's just not easy and it's hard to find a place when you're as marginalised as people who live on those estates are. So when she falls in with some other young girls who are living a life of petty crime then she does actually find a place for herself and it's actually quite empowering, you're not looking down on these kids you actually empathize with why the're living the lives that they lead that's not to say it's bleak because it's full of joy in places there's a wonderful scene of them all going to a hotel room and dancing to Diamonds by Rihanna it's got some really fresh young performances it feels like it's showing us a part of France and Paris we've never seen before - I just thought it was great. • Source: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3655522/?...
