Table Teaser for this Thursday’s LIVE on October 24 at 7pm EST! The theme this Thursday is “Fall Festival”. This table inspires the CRUNCH of Fall leaves, sipping PSL next to a crackling fire, and the crisp rush of the first frost. • Here are some of my showcased minerals this week and how we are inspired by them for Fall: • Vanadinite: A striking mineral from the apatite group of phosphates, with the chemical formula Pb5(VO4)3Cl. Its deep, fiery-red hexagonal crystals evoke the rich hues of fall leaves. • Byssolite: Fibrous to hair-like crystal, often found in the ferroactinolite-actinolite-tremolite series, though it can belong to any amphibole species. • Pyrite: This iron sulfide mineral, with the chemical formula FeS₂, is the most abundant of its kind and shines with a metallic luster that mimics the warm, brass-yellow tones of autumn. • Calcite: This stable polymorph of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) is a cornerstone of the mineral world, especially as the key component of limestone. • Rutile, Mottramite: As the autumn season brings a warm glow to the landscape, rutile, an oxide mineral composed of titanium dioxide (TiO₂), captures the brilliance of fall with its rich, golden to reddish hues. Mottramite, orthorhombic anhydrous vanadate hydroxide mineral, PbCu(VO₄)(OH), represents the copper end of the descloizite subgroup. • Ammonite: These ancient creatures once thrived in the oceans, their coiled shells reminiscent of the curled edges of fall leaves. • Smithsonite: This mineral form of zinc carbonate (ZnCO₃), once confused with hemimorphite due to their strikingly similar appearances, brings a sense of seasonal mystery. • Rhodochrosite: A manganese carbonate mineral (MnCO₃), perfectly captures the essence of the season.
