4 weeks down, and we are still going strong. And this time, I got the track out just in time to catch end of Friday. Lol. • For the uninitiated, this is song no. 4 of #MadrasheWeekly - a self imposed music challenge where I compose, write and produce one song every week, for as long as I can. • Thathai Vizhi is a lyrical take on Tisra Alarippu, one of the important set pieces you learn as you graduate from amateur to semiprofessional in Bharathanatyam - a dance form from Tamil Nadu, South of India. In many ways, this is an ode to the person I left behind in School. • You see, I had learnt Bharathanatyam for over a year in high school and eventually had to discontinue due to an injury. I was actually pretty decent at it for as long as I practiced it, and I got around just far enough to learn the Tisra Alarippu. • But this version of the Tisra Alarippu (which coincidentally means ‘to bloom’) is a song about young infatuation. Maybe, eventually I will make a proper music video for this, and the story will be of a young girl crushing on her senior in a dance school - The best dancer and the mini mentor for all the juniors, and obviously a stunner. She can’t keep her eyes, or mind off him, but doesn’t even understand the emotions fully to know whether it is okay to even tell him that she likes him… Ah well.. • I consciously wrote the song exactly in tune with the jathi of the original Alarippu, so this is perfectly dance ready.
