originally recorded on 3-30-22 • Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights. • Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a WCH mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights. • After spending the morning and midday on the AN (both shooting it and documenting upgrades to it), and getting some lunch in Quincy, I went over to Tallahassee to try and get TA-East coming into town, only to realize they were already in the yard. As such, I went back out to the FGAR's Tallahassee Sub in Midway to wait for TA-West to leave Tallahassee. After a while of waiting, TA-West came up to this crossing and stopped, before shoving back into the quarry here to drop off most of their train. The power on TA-West on this evening was a pair of HLCX GP38-2s leading an FGAR SD40-2 and an ex-IC E GP40-2. • At the end of the video, you can also hear the Midway defect detector reading-out over my scanner. It wasn't a full read-out, due to the train stopping on top of and shoving back across the detector. • This crossing is another fairly nice one, featuring a nice 90s CSX install that appears to be largely original still. A bit unusually, the closer signal here has the gate mech mounted right above the base, and the base is mounted to a raised-up foundation, for some reason. Not sure why CSX chose to do it this way, maybe they were just running low on flexible conduit when installing this signal or something? Either way, it certainly gives the crossing a rather unusual look to it. • It appears that this crossing also malfunctioned slightly when I got this video. As y'all can hear, the bell here continued ringing while the gates were down. However, it doesn't appear that it's supposed to do that, as the following activation I saw here (when the power pulled out from the quarry to go back to what was left of their train), the bell shut-off when the gates were down like it seems it should do. I don't mind though, as this WCH bell still sounds rather nice and healthy, and I always enjoy listening to WCH bells like this one. • If you like my videos, feel free to leave me a tip on Ko-Fi!
