Is there a connection between gluten and IBS?! • 🌾 DO YOU NEED TO BE GLUTEN FREE FOR IBS? #IBSMYTHBUSTERS🥊 • Cutting out bread, pasta, bagels, donuts, noodles… but still having symptoms? 😓🍝 • It’s so frustrating and can feel isolating! ☹️ • So, let’s talk about it: Do you NEED to be gluten free for IBS? • 🌟 Answer is… it DEPENDS! Most likely, NO. • Most people with IBS might have a FODMAP intolerance, and fructan is the FODMAP in wheat. So it's not necessary to go gluten free but instead to identify how much fructan you can tolerate. • Now, there is a small subset of people that actually have NCGS (Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). You can have a gluten intolerance but NOT have celiac. This is why it’s so important to identify IF YOU HAVE A FOOD TRIGGER.🤔 • Remember this 👇👇👇 • 🌾 Gluten is a protein. • 🌾 Fructan is a carbohydrate. • ‼️ NOW, the GLUTEN FREE diet is HARD AF and completely UNNECESSARY for most people with IBS! If you suspect it, you need to be sure before cutting out such a big food group! • To identify either gluten or fructan intolerance, work with a provider to help you properly eliminate and re-introduce, then monitor for symptoms. • Have you tried the GF diet?
