Going through the supermarket aisles, you may have noticed Dave's Killer Bread and wondered how it got its name. Founder Dave Dahl actually spent 15 years in prison. • Dahl's father had his own bakery, NatureBake, in the 1980s, specializing in handmade organic and sprouted grain loaves. Dahl says he wasn't interested in the family business in his teens. He dropped out of high school, started taking drugs, and turned to a life of petty crime, according to the Deseret News. He spent the next 15 years serving out sentences for various offenses, and worked at the family bakery between stints. • In the early 2000's, Dahl rejoined his brother Glenn at the bakery for good.
