CNS Nervous System classification || ANS Nervous System classification #anatomy #physiology • Previous Video : • Types of Culture Media (Liquid, Semis... • The nervous system is classified into two main parts: the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS): • Central nervous system (CNS) • Made up of the brain and spinal cord, the CNS controls thought, movement, emotion, breathing, heart rate, hormones, and body temperature. It's called central because it combines information from the entire body and coordinates activity across the whole organism. • Peripheral nervous system (PNS) • Made up of nerves that branch off from the spinal cord and extend to all parts of the body, the PNS is responsible for sending information from the brain and spinal cord to the different parts of organs like arms, fingers, toes, and legs. PNS nerves can be sensory (afferent), motor (efferent), or mixed (both). • The nervous system also includes the autonomic nervous system (ANS), which is made up of the sympathetic, parasympathetic, and enteric nervous systems: • Sympathetic nervous system: Stimulates the body's fight or flight response, which is the body's rapid involuntary response to dangerous or stressful situations. • Parasympathetic nervous system: Part of the ANS.
