This is SolidWorks video tutorials for beginners series shows about how to use revolved boss/base feature tool in solid work cad software. In this tutorial, I am creating a hollow cylinder in 3D by using this feature tool. It gives step by step information for creating axis symmetric product designs such as solid cylinder, stepped shaft, internal combustion engine pistons etc and how to use this tool properly. If you want to design other products which are having axis symmetry, follow the same method shown in this video tutorial for making it in soild work cad software. See the step by step revolve boss tutorials here on my blog: http://solidworkstutorialsforbeginner... • Revolved Boss/Base tool is different feature tool which adds materials by revolving a closed or open profile about an axis. The axis symmetric profiles are mainly applicable to revolved boss tool feature. You can find this tool in both features command manger or “Boss feature” section in insert menubar. Revolved Boss/Base is controlled by Revolve property manager, where you can set the dimensions or revolving, axis of revolution, degree of revolution etc. • For creating axis symmetric 3D designs, first open new “part” file and select one of the default plane “e.g.: top plane”. Then go to the sketch area and select “centerline tool for drawing the axis of revolution. After that, you should create closed profile in sketching area any one of the sides of drawn axis. Then click on the “Exit the sketch” button. If you don’t exit the sketch, revolved boss/base option will not be enabled in the features toolbar. • Go to “features toolbar” and then you can see the “revolve boss property manager”. From that, select “axis of revolution” and “closed profile”. If you are enabled the preview in property manager, it will shows preview of revolved profile.
