Hey Everyone! • Before the start of the new year, one of the most famous and practiced Japanese traditions is to pound mochi. In the Japanese tradition, this is called Mochitsuki. Mochitsuki symbolizes strength within the family. I also heard that mochi is sticky rice which symbolizes keeping the family together. • Reid and I attended Aiea Hongwanji Mission's annual mochitsuki. Uncle Warren and Aunty Claire are both very active members of the Aiea Hongwanji and take part in this event every year. Uncle Warren was very kind to go through the whole process of mochi pounding! • Please enjoy! • A couple years back I made a video of our family making mochi with the machine... click here to watch!    • Mochi Making in Hawaii   • Thank you! • Cari
