For more architectural rendering tutorials and tips visit • http://www.realfxdigital.com/public-w... • Full tutorial library for learning to master architectural rendering in photoshop, maya and other great software packages. • Original post: • http://www.realfxdigital.com/2014/02/... • Architecture designed for sociocultural evolution. • Situated between the urban fabric of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the favela slums on the outer skirts of the city, we see the home of the 2016 Olympic games. • A powerful, towering symbol of high-density living, athletic competition and the fight against destitution caused by hasty development tactics. • This 5 tiered sporting arena wrapped with hundreds of affordable housing units provides an iconic venue that simultaneously solves the displacement issue so commonly associated with the Olympics games. • The only problem? • It hasn't been built yet. • Olympic Mitosis is a concept proposal for the 2014 Evolo Skyscraper Competition. Although unbuilt, it is hoped that the project will spark a greater dialogue about development for social change. • Architecture for people, for community, for humanity; not for dollars and short-lived media exposure. • The Olympic games draw millions of spectators from all corners of the globe to a single city for over two weeks of intense athletic competition. • The political and financial benefits of this event span many years before and after the spectacle takes place. • But this of course all comes at great expense. • Turmoil for the host city population • The Center on Housing Rights and Evictions reports on average 2 million people are displaced from their homes each time the Olympic games are held. • Additionally there is a scattered plan for development which leads to clusters of hotels and businesses being built with no long term plan and no consideration for sustainability. • Once the games have ended the large scale development fails, it leaves empty buildings and a higher population of homeless. • The potential for long-term benefits of the host city should be seriously considered in order to make the games a beneficial and sustainable endeavor for the host population. • A Mitosis of the Olympic program • The programmatic need for the Olympic games has always been centered around a singular function, to celebrate the country, the performance, the team; the proverbial we across the globe. • It seems to declare a program celebrating the people all over the world but in the past has fallen quite short of ever helping the people.
