In this video, Professor Thorsby discusses The Postmodern Condition by Jean François Lyotard, or at least sections from it. Lyotard argues that postmodernism is a condition in which metanarratives (or grand narratives) break apart simultaneous to the post-industrial technological age. When the grand narratives break apart, social discourse (and knowledge itself) are reduced to language games and the social and cultural bond solidify into social networks.
