Le Bougainville is the third Explorer Class Ship for Ponant Cruises. She is an expedition vessel and holds a maximum of 186 passengers. The device is forward-looking and integrated into the vessel's bridge navigation system. The sonar allows it to manoeuvre through icy waters, showing and mapping approaching hazards, such as icebergs or shallow coral reefs. • Le Bougainville has many new features that make it a cut above most other cruise lines, some of these innovative features included on the explorer-class ships is the blue eye lounge, located 2-3 meters below the water level. Here, passengers can see passing marine life through two giant windows, shaped like a whale's eyes, inset in the ship's hull as well as on digital screens projecting live images filmed by three underwater cameras. Cruisers will be able to hear the marine life as well via specially developed hydrophones, located beneath the ship's keel, which will capture noises up to 5 kilometers away. As if that weren't enough, the underwater sounds will resonate as vibrations on special sofas passengers can sit on. • Another incredible feature is a new hydraulic platform. The adjustable height platform offers many benefits to passengers including easier boarding than on any other cruise ship, and simpler and safer Zodiac embarkation and disembarkation for expeditions. The hydraulic platform also allows the ship to offer another new feature called, The Marina. When the ship is at Anchor the platform is lowered down to sea level in calm and conditions and allows for simple and safe access to the sea for swimming and practicing various water sports such as kayaking or paddle-boarding. • Another great feature is Ponant’s open-bridge policy. The Navigation Bridge is available to visit throughout the day, but contingent upon weather conditions and security. • Le Bougainville cruise itinerary program, similarly to other explorer class ships, offers unique itineraries to offbeat port and island destinations around the world, including the Caribbean, Baltic and Mediterranean, East Asia, Australia, Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean islands, Canadian Arctic, Brazil Amazon, South America and Antarctica.
