RV Expert Randy Murray explains how a camper anode rod prevents the inside of the hot water heater from rusting. Through the process of electrolysis, the anode rod will corrode and sacrifice itself in place of the steel tank. Once the anode rod shows significant corrosion, it's time to replace the rod along with using a tank flush tool to remove sediment from the water heater. An ideal time to perform this task is at the end of each camping season.
